Wrexham stand between Wanderers and a place in the Vertu Trophy semi-final for the second time in three years.

The Whites finished top of Group D and have since knocked out Huddersfield and Lincoln in the knockout stage.

Steven Schumacher recorded his first win as Bolton head coach at the weekend following a thrilling comeback against Crawley.

Team news

Aaron Collins has trained after missing the win against Crawley and will “probably” be available to feature.

However, Kion Etete is likely to miss out as the Cardiff loanee waits for the results of a scan on a thigh problem.

Skipper George Thomason is available, with his two-match suspension only counting towards the league fixtures.

However, Aaron Morley, Joel Randall and Alex Murphy are all cup-tied from earlier in the campaign. Szabi Schon also misses out through suspension, picking up two bookings in the earlier rounds.

As for the hosts, Academy product Harry Ashfield could be involved again after netting his first senior goal against Port Vale last week.

Opposition lowdown

Wrexham reached this stage following a 4-1 win against Port Vale last week. That tie had initially been postponed due to the weather conditions.

The Red Dragons had no league fixture over the weekend. They were due to face Leyton Orient, who instead hosted Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Phil Parkinson’s side currently sit third in the League One table and four points off the automatic promotion spots.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced Wrexham 13 times in competitive fixtures, with a record of eight wins, two draws and three defeats.

The points were shared when the sides met in the league in August following a goalless draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Bolton haven’t played at Wrexham since May 1988 when Robbie Savage’s goal clinched promotion to the old Division Three and sparked scenes of celebration among the thousands of travelling fans.

How to watch

The fixture is available to watch live on Sky Sports+ or streaming service NOW for subscribers, which is the case for all Vertu Trophy ties this season.
